NPC Author: the AI NPC creator for your Fortnite island
The NPC Author brings your island’s characters to life. As an AI NPC creator for Fortnite, it connects character assets, behavior and encounter rules into a gameplay feature you can actually verify.
An AI NPC creator for Fortnite
The NPC Author designs the NPCs, creatures and enemies of your UEFN (Unreal Editor for Fortnite) project: behavior states, perception, navigation, spawners, character assets, encounters and gameplay integration.
It starts by defining the NPC’s role: team or faction, spawn rules, perception, goals, attacks, rewards and despawn conditions. Then it inspects existing character definitions, assets, Verse modules and spawners. When the chain spans several assets and code changes, it publishes a step plan.
How it works
- Capabilities: it discovers what the editor actually exposes for NPCs, character definitions, navigation and devices, then builds a dependency list from what it observes.
- States: it defines observable states and bounded transitions (idle, acquire target, move, act, recover, stop) and handles target loss, unreachable destinations, interrupted actions, death and respawn.
- Code: it writes Verse with verified API signatures and conflict-checked file writes, then cleans up subscriptions and async tasks.
- Wiring: it connects definitions, spawners and editable references only through exposed operations, then builds and rereads device references.
It relies on the pilot-npc, uefn-verse-devices and uefn-game-design Skills. It works with the Verse Coder on shared logic, the Level Designer on encounter spaces and the Tester on checks. Models, rigs and animations belong to the 3D Modeler, Rigging Artist and Animation Artist.
Example prompts
- Add three guards that patrol around the vault and attack nearby players.
- My enemy gets stuck when the player climbs onto the roof: handle the unreachable target.
- Spawn zombies in waves, with a coin reward for each elimination.
- Creatures do not despawn at the end of the round: clean them up properly.
- Give the wolves a retreat phase once they lose half their health.
Tools and connections
- Connection
- UEFN (NPCs, devices, navigation and Verse builds, with the exposed tools)
- Files
- reads and writes Verse files with hash checks
- Starting Skills
- pilot-npc, uefn-verse-devices, uefn-game-design
- By default
- no Blender or Meshy connection in its profile
- Works with
- Verse Coder, Level Designer, Tester
Limits
The NPC Author does not assume the editor can create any Blueprint, animation preset or physics asset. When an asset operation is missing, it finishes the independent code work, names the exact missing asset or capability and does not claim the chain is wired. It tests one NPC before a group when a session is available, and reports asset readiness, compiled behavior, wiring and observed in-game behavior separately.
For the code side, see Verse code; to get started, see pricing.
FAQ
Can it create my characters’ 3D models?
No: by default its profile has no Blender or Meshy access. It reuses your project’s assets; a new model, its rig and animations belong to the 3D Modeler, Rigging Artist and Animation Artist, which the orchestrator can coordinate.
Are behaviors written in Verse?
Yes, whenever a behavior needs code. It checks API signatures, writes files after your approval and builds through the editor when that operation is available.
How do I know my NPCs work?
Its report separates asset readiness, the build, wiring and behavior actually observed. It checks navigation failure, repeated spawns, multiplayer ownership and reset in particular.
