Generate your Fortnite island thumbnails in every format
Island Pilot’s Thumbnails tab generates, organizes and checks your Fortnite island’s promotional images. Since October 22, 2026, the Creator Portal requires landscape and portrait thumbnails, with and without the logo, plus the island logo. The UI Designer prepares it with you, then Island Pilot exports it ready to upload.
The image kit the Creator Portal requires
A single 16:9 thumbnail is no longer enough. The publishing kit has five required images and two optional videos:
- Landscape 1920×1080 (PNG or JPG), for the creator page and Discover, with the logo and as art only;
- Portrait 1440×1920 (PNG or JPG), for featured rows and mobile, also with the logo and as art only;
- Logo 1440×608 as a transparent PNG: Discover places it at the top or bottom of the art-only images;
- a trailer, optional but needed to appear in the Hero carousel and Epic’s Picks, and a gameplay video: a real match, with no editing.
Island Pilot checks the size and weight of each image before it goes into the kit.
Seven styles, chosen for your island’s genre
The studio starts from a style, your description and your references:
- 3D render: hero up front, a glowing key item, the island scene behind. For action, minigames and party.
- 1v1 duel: two rivals on the same path, wide angle, blue sky. For 1v1, build fights and races.
- 2D cartoon: thick outlines, white stickers, a panicked hero facing an absurd threat. For casual, escape, obby and memes.
- Cinematic: a story moment in a rich setting, like a still from an animated film. For roleplay, social and story islands.
- Horror: fog, colored backlight, a scared hero; the threat stays implied. For horror and night survival.
- Tycoon: a two-line logo, a costumed hero, piles of the theme’s resource. For tycoons, simulators and progression games.
- Title logo: the 3D title is the subject, with an object breaking through the letters. For known formats: zone wars, murder…
Create, edit, roll out
In the studio you pick the format (landscape, portrait or logo), the variant (with logo or art only), the generator, the quality (1K, 2K or 4K) and one to four images at a time. You can attach:
- a UEFN capture taken from the app, or your own images, as references;
- your characters, called with @ in the description so they look the same from one image to the next.
Edit mode changes an existing image from a single sentence. AI direction lets the UI Designer pick the style and the scene from the project memory. And from a thumbnail you like, Roll out as a full kit produces all five images of the same scene.
Review, videos and export
The UI Designer can review each thumbnail against Epic’s rules: it is marked to review, compliant or to fix, with the reason. Anything uncertain, such as a logo cut-out, is flagged for you to check.
For videos, Island Pilot reads the file and tells you what is off: MOV container, ProRes codec, 16:9 picture, 15 to 30 seconds, uncompressed stereo sound. When needed, it gives you the conversion command.
Once the kit is complete, Export the kit copies the images into your project’s Pilot/Thumbnails/Kit folder, under the names the Creator Portal expects.
Good to know
- Generation runs on your own access (ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok or Meshy) and uses your credits with that provider.
- Uploading to the Creator Portal is a step you do yourself: Island Pilot prepares and checks the kit, it never publishes for you.
- Videos are not copied into the kit: a ProRes file often weighs hundreds of MB, so Island Pilot keeps its location.
- The review helps you follow Epic’s rules, but Epic has the final say when you publish.
What you need
A Windows 10 or 11 PC (64-bit), access to an image generator (see AI models) and, for captures, UEFN open with its MCP turned on. The UI Designer also handles your game’s HUD and menus: see UI design.
FAQ
Which thumbnail formats do you need to publish a Fortnite island?
Since October 22, 2026, the Creator Portal requires a 1920×1080 landscape and a 1440×1920 portrait, each with the logo and as art only, plus a 1440×608 transparent PNG logo. The trailer and gameplay video are optional. Island Pilot prepares the full kit.
Do I need to draw or use photo-editing software?
No. You describe the scene, pick a style and the generator makes the image. Edit mode fixes a detail from a single sentence.
Can I use my own images?
Yes. Import an image or a UEFN capture as a reference, or import a finished thumbnail to have it reviewed and added to the kit.
Is it included in the price?
Yes, the Thumbnails tab is part of Island Pilot, paid once with lifetime updates: see pricing. Only image generation runs on your own accounts.
